Mala Care Guide

Our mala necklaces are made from high-quality natural materials and are designed to bring you joy for many years. With regular wear, dirt can naturally accumulate on the necklace, just like anywhere else. The Rudraksha and sandalwood beads can become a bit brittle over time due to contact with perfume and sweat.

Therefore, we recommend that you subject your mala necklace to a small care ritual from time to time to maintain its natural freshness.

How do I care for my mala?

To free your mala from dirt, you will need a glass of water, some eco-friendly soap, possibly a small brush, and some care oil (regular coconut oil, sandalwood oil, etc. will suffice. It does not have to be a special product).

1. First, place the mala in the glass with lukewarm water and some soap. The tassel can also be submerged without any problems.

Then let the necklace soak for at least 10 minutes – if you want a particularly thorough cleaning, feel free to let it soak for several hours.

If you also want to clean the tassel of your mala, you can gently rub it in the water with your fingers after soaking to remove any dirt.

2. After that, take your mala out of the glass and rinse it under clear water. For very stubborn dirt, you can gently clean the beads with a soft brush now, but in most cases, this should not be necessary.

3. Now let the necklace dry completely. This usually takes several hours.

It’s best to shake the tassel briefly over a sink beforehand so that it dries faster.

4. When the necklace is dry, take some care oil and evenly massage it into the Rudraksha and sandalwood beads with your fingers. This not only gives the beads a pleasant scent but also protects them from becoming brittle.

Care for the tassel

After some time, your tassel may show signs of wear, and you should clean it as described above.

If you wish, you can comb it with a fine comb after drying - this will make it fluffy again.

If the ends of the threads no longer look particularly nice, you can trim them with scissors by a few millimeters to give your tassel a fresh look again.

Activate the energy of your mala

Your mala necklace consists of particularly energetic materials. This is related to the energy structure of the stones and the internal composition of the material. The basic energetic effect of your beads is already inherent in the material itself and does not fade over the years.

However, you can energetically stimulate the individual beads and thereby enhance their positive effect – this is often referred to as "charging" or "activating."

In our experience, this is best achieved by performing a full mantra meditation with the necklace .

For this, choose your personal mantra or affirmation and repeat it with closed eyes for each bead once, while rubbing the respective bead between your fingers and thus moving from bead to bead around the entire necklace – until you return to the tassel.

To fully charge your necklace, you should repeat this once a day for 14 days – and then at irregular intervals, whenever it feels right and necessary to you.

A beautiful mantra that has a positive effect on everyone is simply "Om." But you can also use an affirmation, such as "I am calm" or "I feel my power."

Why beads become darker

The Rudraksha and sandalwood beads of your necklace will darken over time due to wearing and also from rubbing with oil. The color of the gemstones can also intensify. This is a completely natural and positive process. The beads absorb the oils and energy of your body while being worn. This gives them a darker color and makes them energetically stronger. It is therefore a highly desirable effect and shows that your mala necklace has connected with you.

For this reason, a mala is always a very personal item, and you should not simply lend it to other people or wear malas from strangers.
